Due to the lack of recent updates, I had to post to express my love for this band. I was first exposed to them when they opened up for Sonic Youth back in 1999. To put it mildly, I was blown away. I believe I recall telling my friend that I liked them more than Sonic Youth (and I love Sonic Youth). I absolutely love them, and Napster just added their album, Mortal Mirror, to their vast array of music. This album is something else…they are an extremely talented, extremely haunting, extremely amazing band. Listen. I command you.

Are they really that clueless?

Surprise, the 2005 Grammys received the lowest ratings in 10 years. Nobody seems to quite have the answer. Hey, I figured it out: (most) modern music sucks. Sorry Clear Channel, you lost your brainless masses to other forms of mind numbing this year. It might also have to do with the fact that there are about five hundred different award shows, at least two per network these days. Remember the days when award shows actually had some credibility?

Last night I performed a solo acoustic set at a local open mic talent show for the first time. It’s something I’ve been wanting to do but never really had the balls quite yet. I rehearsed a set full of Pixies tunes and got up enough courage to do it, and so I did. Very surprisingly, I won the popular vote for last night’s show. I have no idea how…the other people before me were far surperior. I was completely shocked. When he said my name, I laughed and said “what the hell?” Very cool, though. Definitely boosts my self-esteem.

Today I break down another barrier. A friend of mine from the Comedy Whorehouse, a local improv comedy troupe I was once a part of, created a sketch with a friend whose wife hosts a local women’s show. He needed someone to play another character and I was the first person he thought of. We’ve been rehearsing a lot for the past two weeks and today we’re filming the sketch. It will be put on DVD and sent around to all sorts of different media outlets. Who knows where it’ll go from there.

I’m happy to be over the hump on these two tasks. I’ve been busy as hell lately without a chance to breathe, and now that everything is said and done, I can get back to my other tasks, such as catching up on my online screenwriting class and working on my screenplay.
